Mechanical Expanding Pipe Plugs and Stoppers Range
Expandable Pipe Plugs in Nylon, Aluminium and Steel
HFT Pipestoppers® Division manufacture standard Mechanical Expanding Plugs in diameters from 0.5 to 96" (12 to 2,440 mm) as well as custom made Stoppers. Typical applications include industrial as well as domestic plumbing operations, water drainage systems, offshore operations, leak testing, sealing holes in castings and weld purging.
These Mechanical Stoppers are negatively buoyant for sub-sea work and can be used in all kinds of pipes and other vessels where there are orifices to be sealed or blocked.
All standard plugs and stoppers from in Nylon, Aluminium and Steel are held in stock at all times for immediate delivery.
Inflatable Pipe Plugs and Stoppers Range
A range of standard and non-standard Inflatable Stoppers is available from the HFT Pipestoppers® Division in sizes 1 to 96” (25 to 2,440 mm). These versatile Inflatable Stoppers are used to service a wide range of industrial applications including leak testing, preventing foreign bodies entering pipelines during downtime, weld purging and preventing machine swarf or tools from falling into pipes.
Inflatable Pipe Plugs and Stoppers are manufactured from tough, robust fabric and are available in standard Cylindrical, Spherical, PetroChem® , Pancake or Rubber versions. Pipestoppers® also manufacture non-standard Inflatable Stoppers that can be square, rectangular, spherical, cylindrical etc.
Heat Resistant Inflatable Stoppers are available for use in temperatures up to 300ºC for up to 24 hours.
Pipework users across the entire industry face the problem of having to change in-line components, such as valves. Isolating sections of pipework for this work can be expensive. The Pipestoppers® Division has an attractive and economical solution, which is to freeze the pipe either side of the valve using Qwik-Freezer™ or Accu-Freeze™ Systems.
This technique avoids the draining of a complete pipe system that might have expensive product inside, ranging from heated water to expensive petrochemical fluids. Freezing can be carried out remotely, which is excellent for nuclear service personnel.
Using liquid carbon dioxide (Qwik-Freezer™) or liquid nitrogen (Accu-Freeze™) means no matter what the size of pipe or the fluid that is inside, one of the two, cost effective systems will be suitable.
The Beginning of the Pipestoppers® Division
The HFT® global network of Distributors, developed over the Company's 40 years of operations, demanded the development of Plugs to augment the range of purging systems that HFT® was already manufacturing.
In the 1970’s HFT® was selling large numbers of clinically white Nylon Plugs for weld purging. As time went by, the volume of sales became so great, HFT® became one of the supplier’s key customers.
As a consequence, when Hiltlake Limited, a leading Tube and Pipe Plug Manufacturer who owned the designs, came up for sale in the 1990's, HFT® purchased the total company, assets and tooling and started to manufacture the Hiltlake patented plug design.
HFT®’s manufacturing facility was extended to include all of the injection moulding tools and assembly personnel necessary for this venture and within the purchase of Hiltlake, absorbed the requirements of many other customers needing other pipestopping products, as well as HFT® Nylon Plugs.
Inflatable Plugs and Stoppers were easy for HFT® to accommodate because of all the work necessary to produce the Range of Inflatable Pipe Purging Systems and this followed with the requirements for large volumes of Aluminium and Steel Plugs.
HFT® were able to grow the manufacturing range of Aluminium Plugs from the 6” limit, right up to 36” ø. The pipe stopping activities growth was sufficiently substantial that it attracted the attention of HFT®’s key US Exclusive Distributor, who gave HFT® the European territory for their Pipe Freezing Systems.
